Tragic Loss: French Actress Nadia Farès Passes Away at 57

Farewell to a Talented Artist

The French film industry is in mourning following the untimely death of actress Nadia Farès at the age of 57. Renowned globally for her memorable role in the critically acclaimed film "Les rivières pourpres" (The Crimson Rivers) released in 2000, Farès was sadly found unconscious in a swimming pool. After spending five days in a coma, she passed away on Friday, April 17.

Her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating, “With immense sadness, we announce the passing of Nadia Farès. France has lost a great artist, but for us, we have lost a mother.” The statement, shared with the AFP agency, also called for "respect and discretion" as the family navigates through this challenging period.

An Investigation Underway

The circumstances surrounding her death have sparked widespread sorrow and disbelief. Reports indicate that she was discovered unconscious in the swimming pool of a private club in Paris. She was admitted to the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in the French capital on Sunday, April 12, where she succumbed to her condition five days later while still in a coma. Authorities have since launched an investigation to clarify the events leading to her tragic demise, although no suspicious circumstances have been identified thus far.

Nadia Farès was born on December 20, 1968, in Marrakech, Morocco, and later became a naturalized French citizen. She spent her formative years in Nice before moving to Paris, where she embarked on her acting career in the early 1990s. Her breakout role came with "Les rivières pourpres," directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, in which she shared the screen with notable actors Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel. Farès had plans to begin shooting her first film as a director and screenwriter in Paris in September 2026, a testament to her enduring passion for storytelling and cinema.
