Super Falcons Prepare for the Upcoming African Women’s Cup of Nations
The Super Falcons of Nigeria are currently in training at their Casablanca camp as they eagerly await the arrival of three pivotal players: Monday Gift, Deborah Abiodun, and Folashade Ijamilusi. This preparation is in anticipation of the 2026 African Women’s Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, 2026. This expanded tournament will feature 16 teams competing in four groups, and it will also serve as a crucial qualifying event for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
As reported by sources close to the team, the trio was expected to join their teammates yesterday, allowing Coach Madugu to finalize the strategies necessary to retain the AWCON title. Currently, the camp is bustling with 22 players, including the latest addition, Michelle Alozie, who joined the squad on Monday night. Notable players already in camp include Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and star forward Asisat Oshoala, among others.
Originally, the team was slated to play an international friendly against Ghana last weekend, but this match was postponed for reasons that remain undisclosed. As the defending champions, Nigeria is entering this competition with the ambition of not only retaining their title but also extending their impressive record as the most successful team in the tournament's history, aiming for their 11th championship victory.
