Iran's Strategic Military Moves
Amid growing tensions in the Middle East, military expert and strategist, Brigadier General Samir Ragab, has disclosed critical information regarding Iran's military capabilities, particularly its so-called "Mosquito Fleet." This fleet primarily consists of small, agile Zodiac boats, which are designed to effectively target larger naval vessels. This development comes in response to the significant destruction of Iran's heavier naval assets, such as submarines and frigates, during recent conflicts.
In a telephone interview with renowned journalist Amr Adib on the "Al-Hekaya" program aired on MBC Egypt, Brigadier General Ragab elaborated on the methods employed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, emphasizing their reliance on asymmetric warfare tactics. These tactics include the utilization of naval missiles capable of sinking destroyers, thereby augmenting their operational capabilities at sea.
Concerns Over Nuclear Material Security
Ragab drew particular attention to Iran's recent activities involving the transfer of centrifuges and 60% enriched fissile material to the fortified "Mount Al-Fas" area, which is situated deep within granite mountains over 100 meters in depth. He cautioned that these underground facilities have remained untouched during the recent twelve-day war, underscoring their resilience against aerial bombardments. Notably, even the American GBU-57 bomb, known as the "bunker buster," is reportedly incapable of penetrating to the full depth of these fortified structures.
He further highlighted the necessity for a comprehensive agreement to facilitate the presence of American, European, and Arab naval forces in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transport. The complexity of mine-clearing operations in this vital waterway requires international collaboration to ensure maritime safety and security.
