Aziz Akhannouch emphasized that the recent meeting serves as a pivotal step towards implementing royal directives aimed at establishing a more accessible healthcare system, enhancing service quality, and ensuring greater equity in health services. This council is not merely a formal venue for passing resolutions; rather, it is a strategic orientation moment designed to position the Casablanca-Settat region as a benchmark in the practical execution of health reform initiatives.
During the assembly, the action plan of the GST (Groupement de Santé de Casablanca-Settat), the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2026, and necessary resolutions for initiating the Group's activities were presented, debated, and approved. The action plan notably includes establishing efficient regional governance, upgrading health infrastructure, and strengthening the synergy between primary care facilities and provincial, regional, and university hospitals. These measures are crucial for ensuring a cohesive healthcare delivery system.
Additionally, the council acknowledged the importance of initiating the new hospital-university complex project in Casablanca, which aims to enhance public healthcare services in the region and improve access to essential health services. The central role of the Ibn Rochd University Hospital was also highlighted, recognized as a national reference institution for specialized care and a major hub for training and scientific research.
With over 7.68 million residents, representing 21% of the Kingdom's population, the Casablanca-Settat region boasts a public health sector that includes 376 primary healthcare facilities and a hospital network with a capacity of approximately 4,943 beds. This meeting convened significant figures, including the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, the Wali of the Region, the President of the Regional Council, the General Director of the GST of Casablanca-Settat, and the General Director of the National Social Security Fund.
