Morocco's Karate Team Achieves Impressive Results at African Championship
The Moroccan national karate team has made a remarkable mark at the 2026 African Karate Championship held in Algiers from September 10 to 13, securing the third position in the overall medal standings. The team showcased exceptional skill and determination, bringing home a total of 26 medals, which included five prestigious golds. This achievement highlights Morocco's growing prowess in the sport of karate on the continental stage.
The five gold medals were earned through outstanding performances by various athletes. Notable victories were recorded by the senior kata team, alongside individual successes from Saeed Oubaya in the under 67 kg category, Mehdi Seriti in the under 84 kg category, Ali Afif in the under 60 kg category for male under 21, and Sarah Idrissi in the under 54 kg category for female competitors. Their triumphs not only reflect their hard work and dedication but also contribute to the growing reputation of Moroccan karate on the international scene.
Looking ahead, the Moroccan karate team is set to participate in the World Karate Championship for youth, juniors, and under 21 categories, which will take place in Poland from October 14 to 18 of this year. Additionally, the team is gearing up for the World Cup for teams scheduled to occur in China between November 20 and 22.
