Morocco's Growing Role in Specialized Medical Tourism: Diaverum's Impact

Diaverum Maroc Enhances Medical Tourism with Dialysis Services

Morocco is steadily establishing itself as a significant player in the realm of specialized medical tourism, particularly in dialysis care. Diaverum Maroc recently announced that it has successfully completed over 1,700 dialysis sessions for international patients across its centers located in Marrakech, Agadir, and Meknès. This initiative has allowed patients to continue their essential treatments while enjoying their vacations or traveling within the Kingdom, thus ensuring that their therapeutic protocols remain uninterrupted.

For individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease, the ability to travel can often be a daunting challenge due to the frequency and scheduling of dialysis sessions, which typically occur several times a week. The need for reliable medical organization becomes paramount before undertaking any journey. Diaverum has strategically positioned its offerings in Morocco to address this critical need, supported by an extensive international network comprising over 450 specialized clinics.

This framework allows patients receiving treatment in cities such as Paris, Madrid, Athens, or Riyadh to maintain their care regimen in Moroccan cities like Marrakech, Agadir, or Meknès, all while adhering to the same medical protocols and having secure access to their clinical histories. The international program known as d.HOLIDAY plays a vital role in facilitating this continuity of care, while the Bookdialysis platform enables patients to schedule their sessions prior to traveling.

Embracing Digital Innovations for Enhanced Patient Care

Diaverum Maroc is also leveraging digital solutions to streamline patient journeys and ensure the security of their healthcare experiences. The d.CARE platform centralizes patients' medical information, while the Treatment Guidance System, employed at the bedside, allows healthcare teams to input and monitor treatment data in real-time. Furthermore, the organization is implementing predictive artificial intelligence models to assist in identifying clinical risks and personalizing care strategies.

According to Charles-Alexandre Thevenin, the General Manager of Diaverum Maroc, the primary goal is to make travel more accessible for dialysis patients without compromising their medical safety. He emphasizes that Moroccan teams adhere to the same protocols as those implemented throughout the Diaverum network, benefiting from the country's renowned hospitality.

Beyond addressing health-related challenges, this initiative aligns with a broader trend in Morocco's tourism sector. While the country is already recognized for its diverse attractions, the development of specialized medical services can strengthen its appeal to an international clientele seeking both an accessible destination and secure healthcare. Since its establishment in Morocco in 2019, Diaverum has been supporting over 900 patients across five specialized clinics in Marrakech, Agadir, and Meknès. Now a part of M42, the group operates in 24 countries, managing over 450 clinics and conducting approximately 6.5 million hemodialysis treatments annually.
