Meditour: Agadir's Call for Enhanced Mediterranean Tourism Cooperation

Meditour Forum Highlights the Need for Collaborative Efforts in Mediterranean Tourism

The Mediterranean Tourism Forum, known as "Meditour," held from June 18 to 20 in Agadir, has issued a powerful call for strengthening cooperation among Mediterranean nations. The event, under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, attracted over 200 decision-makers and 40 international experts, all converging to outline the future of tourism aimed at 2030. The gathering culminated in the "Agadir Declaration," which emphasized the necessity of fostering dialogue among Mediterranean destinations through experience sharing, the development of sustainable institutional partnerships, networking opportunities, and the gradual convergence of tourism development strategies.

This significant event advocated for the operational support of Mediterranean tourist destinations in implementing their strategies, promoting the sharing of best practices, and establishing a collective monitoring mechanism. This approach aims to ensure that initiatives are measurable and continuously improve their impact. Additionally, the final document called for the integration of data, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and tourism intelligence into the governance of destinations. Such measures are crucial for enhancing decision-making processes, improving visitor experiences, and boosting territorial competitiveness by the year 2030.

Furthermore, the forum addressed the importance of developing integrated models that combine coastal tourism, cruise operations, sustainable maritime mobility, and the preservation of coastal ecosystems. This integrated approach aims to promote responsible growth and resilience within coastal regions, ensuring that tourism development aligns with environmental sustainability. The discussions and outcomes from the "Meditour" forum signify a crucial step towards a more cooperative and sustainable future for Mediterranean tourism.
