Strengthening Bilateral Relations Between Morocco and Mexico
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Istanbul, Turkey, Morocco and Mexico expressed their mutual desire to elevate their bilateral relations to more integrated and effective levels. This significant declaration was made during a bilateral meeting between Mohamed Ould Rachid, President of the Moroccan House of Councillors, and Kenia Lopez Rabadán, President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, taking place on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
During the discussions, Ould Rachid emphasized that both countries possess the essential elements to serve as a genuine model of collaboration among Southern nations, highlighting a robust historical relationship that spans over 64 years. He pointed out that Morocco and Mexico enjoy strategic geopolitical positions, with Morocco being a pivotal hub in Africa and Mexico serving as a key player in North and Latin America.
Ould Rachid further noted the potential for collaboration through promising strategic sectors and innovative experiences that can facilitate deeper partnerships. He mentioned the Atlantic Royal Initiative as a strategic lever for promoting trade flows across a vast geopolitical landscape that extends through Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America.
Additionally, he remarked that King Mohammed VI's visit to Mexico in 2004 was a decisive turning point in the evolution of their bilateral relations, asserting that both nations are capable of establishing fruitful parliamentary and political dialogues to develop initiatives and proposals that capitalize on their promising potentials, fostering partnerships based on integration and shared value creation.
In response, Lopez Rabadán commended the exceptional relations that bind Morocco and Mexico, characterized by mutual respect and a shared commitment to further development. She expressed Mexico's eagerness to advance bilateral ties and expand areas of cooperation that serve the mutual interests of both nations and enhance their partnership prospects.
Lopez Rabadán also conveyed her willingness for the Mexican Chamber of Deputies to continue and enhance parliamentary dialogue with its Moroccan counterpart, emphasizing the importance of intensifying exchanges of visits, expertise, and experiences, as well as strengthening coordination on matters of mutual concern. The discussions held during the 152nd IPU Assembly, which will continue until Sunday, feature a prominent Moroccan parliamentary delegation led by Ould Rachid, including members of the national parliamentary group within the IPU.
