Moroccan Initiative to Empower Journalists in Mauritania
On June 11, 2026, a significant training workshop commenced in Nouakchott, tailored for journalists and editors from various media organizations. The workshop, titled "Television Journalism in the Digital Age: From News Production to Impact Creation," is organized by the Mauritanian Network of Women Journalists in collaboration with the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Communication. This initiative aims to enhance the skills and capabilities of journalists, thereby strengthening the media landscape in Mauritania.
The workshop is being facilitated by Belkacem Essahli, a media expert from Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in Fes, who brings extensive knowledge and experience to the table. During the opening session, Abdel Fattah Belamchi, the head of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Network for Research and Studies, delivered an academic presentation focusing on media and political discourse. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the Moroccan and Mauritanian people, which underpins the shared cultural and historical ties between the two nations.
The opening ceremony was led by Mohamed Jdou Khatri, the Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Parliamentary Relations. Additionally, Khadija Bint Al-Mujtaba, the president of the Mauritanian Network of Women Journalists, outlined the workshop's objectives, which align with the network's mission to prioritize academic research and continuous training as fundamental pillars for the development of professional journalism within media institutions.
This training event, which runs until June 14, is set to benefit dozens of journalists from various media outlets across Mauritania, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation in the journalistic field.
