Moroccan Recognition of Leadership in Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly
On April 18, 2026, during a crucial meeting held at the headquarters of the House of Representatives in Egypt’s new administrative capital, Abderrahim Fassi, the Vice President of the Moroccan House of Representatives, acknowledged the pivotal role played by Mohamed Abu Al-Einain in leading the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean. Fassi emphasized that since Abu Al-Einain took the helm, a "new spirit" has infused the institution's activities, fostering dialogue and strengthening connections among the parliaments and peoples on both sides of the Mediterranean.
Fassi's remarks came during the meeting of the Assembly's Bureau and its extended office, where he underscored the importance of such gatherings amid the increasing challenges facing the Mediterranean region. He pointed out that the area is undergoing profound transformations marked by ongoing conflicts, escalating geopolitical tensions, and worsening crises related to migration, climate change, and energy and food security. These issues necessitate enhanced multilateral cooperation and intensified dialogue among countries.
Furthermore, Fassi assured that Morocco continues to play an active role in establishing regional stability through a balanced approach that integrates security and sustainable development. This approach also emphasizes South-South cooperation and engagement in regional and international partnerships. He highlighted Morocco's significant achievements in recent years concerning economic and social reforms, alongside the implementation of major projects in social protection, energy transition, and water resource management, thereby reinforcing its position as a reliable partner within the Mediterranean sphere.
