Massive Protests Erupt in Morocco in Support of Palestinian Detainees and Sacred Sites

Widespread Demonstrations Across Morocco

On April 11, 2026, hundreds of Moroccan citizens participated in protests across multiple cities, including Tangier, Fes, and the capital, Rabat, to express their solidarity with Palestinian detainees and to defend sacred sites. These demonstrations were organized by the "National Action Group for Palestine" and the "Moroccan Authority for Supporting the Issues of the Nation," both of which are non-governmental organizations. Protesters chanted slogans condemning the Israeli Knesset's recent decision to execute Palestinian prisoners, with chants such as "O coward Zionist, a prisoner must not be humiliated" and "The people want to free the prisoners." The demonstrations also included banners advocating for the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with messages like "Our Al-Aqsa and our prisoners are in danger" and "No to the execution of Palestinian detainees."

Voices Against Injustice

During a rally in Rabat, Mohammed Zahari, a member of the National Action Group for Palestine, spoke out against the targeting of prisoners, asserting that such actions are an attack on the entire Palestinian people. He emphasized that international silence is complicit in these crimes and stressed that the struggle for the rights of prisoners is integral to the broader Palestinian national liberation movement. Currently, approximately 10,000 Palestinian detainees are held in Israeli prisons, including 350 children and 73 women, who face systematic torture and medical neglect, according to various Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations. Zahari's statements underscored the urgency of supporting the detainees and resisting oppressive policies.

In a significant legislative move, the Israeli Knesset recently approved a law permitting the execution of certain Palestinian prisoners, a decision that has sparked outrage and condemnation from various groups worldwide. The protests in Morocco reflect a growing sentiment of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and a call for justice in the face of ongoing violence and oppression.
