Celebrating a Historic Milestone in Tiznit
On Friday, the family of resistance fighters and members of the Liberation Army commemorated the 92nd anniversary of the Ait Abdallah battles (1934) in the Tiznit region. This event stands as a significant historical milestone, embodying the values of struggle and defense of the nation's unity and sacred principles. The occasion was marked by the organization of the second forum dedicated to the memory of resistance in the western Anti-Atlas region, held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This commemoration coincides with the 67th anniversary of the late King Mohammed V's visit to Tafraout, the 54th anniversary of the historical visit by the late King Hassan II to this region, and the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI's visit to the area.
Strengthening Historical Memory Through Community Initiatives
In the city of Tafraout, the event saw the presence of Mustapha El Khatiri, the High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Members of the Liberation Army, along with Abdel Rahman Jouhari, the governor of the Tiznit province, and a number of former resistance fighters, elected officials, and civil society representatives. During this gathering, the foundation stone was laid for a memorial monument in the town center, aimed at commemorating the Ait Abdallah battles and honoring the heroism of the local people. This project seeks to enhance collaboration between the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Members of the Liberation Army and the Tafraout local community, focusing on the preservation of historical memory.
The official delegation also reviewed plans for the redevelopment of Resistance Street, located adjacent to the historical memory space dedicated to the resistance and liberation, with a financial allocation of 2.5 million dirhams. This funding comes from the contributions of the Ministry of Interior (1 million dirhams), the Ministry of National Land Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and City Policy (1 million dirhams), and the Tafraout municipality (500,000 dirhams). The aim of this initiative is to improve infrastructure in underdeveloped neighborhoods, facilitate access to the historical memory space, and enhance the urban aesthetics of Resistance Street and its surroundings, aligning with the educational and cultural roles of this area while contributing to the valorization of the region's history.
Additionally, in the Amlen community, El Khatiri and the accompanying delegation inaugurated a memorial erected in the town center, honoring the local resistance fighters who defended religious sanctities and national principles. This memorial's construction is part of a partnership agreement, reflecting the recommendations from the first forum, aimed at highlighting the values of patriotism and acknowledging the sacrifices made by the region's resistance fighters and members of the Liberation Army, thereby connecting future generations with the symbols of struggle.
The forum also included a commemorative speech festival and a communication meeting to honor this significant anniversary, alongside recognizing a group of former resistance fighters and members of the Liberation Army in a symbolic gesture that carries a human and spiritual dimension in appreciation of their contributions and sacrifices. In this regard, El Khatiri stated that the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Members of the Liberation Army aims to shine a light on the chapters of freedom, independence, and national unity through organizing such intellectual forums and community meetings with local historical memory.
He emphasized that the outcomes of these cultural, educational, and communication events will enrich the national archive with research that sheds light on the deep collective memory of the western Anti-Atlas tribes and will constitute a significant scientific and knowledge-based step towards exploring and valuing the glories and heroic deeds of these resisting regions. Furthermore, this second forum, themed "Resistance... Loyalty to History and Building the Future," also featured a scientific and intellectual seminar titled "The Ait Abdallah Battles... Nature of the Landscape and the Uniqueness of Resistance," honoring and acknowledging the collective memory of the western Anti-Atlas tribes and enriching the national archive with comprehensive studies on this subject.
