Transforming Urban Transport in Tétouan
Tétouan is set to revolutionize its public transport system with the arrival of new buses adorned with traditional zellige patterns, reflecting the city's rich heritage. This highly anticipated initiative aims to modernize urban transportation in the region, ultimately expanding the fleet to over a hundred vehicles. The first vehicles of a completely renewed fleet have already hit the streets, showcasing a design inspired directly by local culture, incorporating motifs from the historical medina and its iconic doors. According to the prefecture's data, this initial delivery is part of a broader program that includes the acquisition of 125 units, which will enhance the network and improve the services provided by the inter-municipal cooperation establishment known as "Nord-Ouest."
The supply of this new transport fleet will be gradual, with a daily reception of 13 buses arriving from Casablanca, marking the first batch of 67 vehicles. Subsequently, a second wave of 56 units will arrive from Tangier. Alongside these deliveries, a comprehensive training program is being rolled out, preparing drivers, technicians, and controllers for the operation of modern technological equipment installed in these buses. This modernization project is overseen by the governor of the Tétouan province, in close coordination with the authorities of M’diq-Fnideq and the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. The official launch of the transport network will occur only after all vehicles have been received, administrative procedures finalized, and training completed. In the meantime, local officials are urging residents and visitors to demonstrate civic responsibility to help preserve these new transportation resources.
National Initiative for Urban Transport Modernization
Morocco has embarked on an extensive national program aimed at modernizing its urban public transport network by bus, spanning from 2025 to 2029. This initiative seeks to comprehensively renew the fleet of vehicles and enhance service quality across numerous cities throughout the kingdom. Agadir has already initiated a total overhaul of its transport network under the supervision of Wali Saaïd Amzazi, launching 134 new buses that signal the end of an outdated transport system and usher in a phase of intelligent mobility which will eventually encompass 311 vehicles serving 18 municipalities within the Greater Agadir area.
