Heritage Days Begin in Marrakech: Celebrating Cultural Richness

Heritage Days Launch in Historical Marrakech

On April 16, a remarkable cultural event titled "Heritage Days" commenced at the historic Bahia Palace in Marrakech, drawing participation from various officials in cultural, administrative, and elected sectors. This initiative aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Red City and enhance the appreciation of both its tangible and intangible heritage. Organized by the "Heritage" Association in collaboration with a number of national and local institutions, the event adopts the theme "Marrakech, Living Heritage: Gardens, Expertise, Spirituality." Its primary goal is to connect the public with the city's heritage and foster a deeper awareness of its significance.

Visitors to Marrakech are presented with a unique opportunity to explore multiple facets of the city's identity through guided tours that traverse its historical narrative. In this context, the President of the "Heritage" Association, Souad Belkiz, emphasized that this event serves as an opportunity to intensify guided visits and raise awareness about the importance of heritage, particularly among the youth. She added that preserving this heritage and passing it on to future generations remains a central objective of the initiative.

Free Tours and Cultural Showcases

Moreover, the current edition features free guided tours, along with a focus on lesser-known historical sites, in a bid to restore recognition to heritage components that merit further attention and promotion. The event began with a stunning display of traditional Amazigh clothing and an exhibition showcasing ancient jewelry and coins, reflecting the diverse and rich cultural assets of the city. The festivities are set to continue until April 19, 2023, introducing new elements, including a complimentary bus service to facilitate visitor transportation between sites and exceptional access to certain archaeological spaces for the public. Additionally, workshops and meetings tailored for various age groups will be organized to promote a culture of heritage preservation and its transmission to upcoming generations.
