The city of Agadir is gearing up for the gradual launch of the 'Bab Al Marsa' space in the summer of 2026, marking a significant advancement in this tourism project following a lengthy journey of rehabilitation and restructuring. The aim is to establish a new hub that combines culinary arts with vibrant tourist activities, creating a unique destination that appeals to both locals and visitors alike.
Situated at the main entrance of Agadir's fishing port, this project is part of a broader vision to revitalize an area that has long suffered from inadequate service quality and poorly organized activities. Incorporated into the urban development program for 2020-2024, it represents a key initiative aimed at modernizing the tourist offering and enhancing the city’s attractiveness.
Following decisions made by the steering committee of the program, which convened in November 2024, management of this space has been entrusted to the competent regional development company. This organization has been actively implementing a gradual rehabilitation program for over a year and a half, aimed at establishing a more professional management model that aligns with Agadir's aspirations as a modern tourist destination.
In its initial phase, the project is expected to accommodate around 70 beneficiaries, including restaurateurs and project holders, whose premises have been allocated by the Agadir municipality following a lottery involving previous beneficiaries. This number is projected to increase to 113 units in the medium term, with the inclusion of new project holders through expressions of interest.
'Bab Al Marsa' is poised to evolve into an integrated destination celebrating local culinary arts, featuring a variety of activities including seafood restaurants, traditional Moroccan dishes, snack bars, and juice stands, alongside spaces dedicated to local products. This will enhance the visitor experience and bolster the city’s image as a culinary hotspot.
In tandem with the development efforts, a training program has been initiated for the beneficiaries, with the first cohort of approximately 40 participants receiving training in areas such as tourist reception, client relationship management, hygiene and safety standards, culinary techniques, as well as management and communication skills, all under the supervision of specialized professionals.
The project is supported by several institutional partners as part of a collective mobilization aimed at ensuring the success of this initiative, which is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing the economic and tourism dynamism of the city while showcasing its strengths in culinary arts and entrepreneurship.
'Bab Al Marsa' is envisioned as more than just a dining space; it embodies an integrated urban project that reflects a transformation in how symbolic spaces are utilized. It represents a collective ambition towards a modern tourist offering that meets the needs and expectations of both visitors and residents in Agadir.
