The regional office of the Justice and Development Party in Marrakech has expressed profound astonishment following the circulation of a video on social media that depicts a group of individuals performing Jewish prayers in front of a segment of the city's historic wall. The party's statement described this incident as "strange and unprecedented" not only in Marrakech but across the entire country. They condemned what they termed as "provocative practices" that, according to them, do not align with the values of tolerance and coexistence, but rather represent unacceptable attempts at cultural and symbolic infiltration.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted that this incident impacts the collective memory of the people of Marrakech and Moroccans in general, serving as an affront to their sentiments. It was characterized as an attempt to impose historical and symbolic significances that do not correspond with the religious and civilizational constants of the Kingdom. The party also warned of the dangers associated with normalizing such behaviors, linking them to symbols connected to the ongoing situation in Palestinian territories and the suffering endured by the Palestinian people over decades.
In light of these events, the regional office urged various political and civil actors, along with intellectual and artistic figures, to remain vigilant and engage in safeguarding the religious and historical identity of the city, as well as to protect its uniqueness and stature. Additionally, they called upon the relevant authorities to intervene to protect the Moroccan identity in all its dimensions, preserve the memory of ancient cities, and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
