Strengthening Bilateral Relations: Morocco and Switzerland's Collaborative Efforts

Enhancing Political and Economic Ties

In a recent discussion marked by fruitful exchanges, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized the significance of his talks with his Swiss counterpart. These discussions not only provided an opportunity to assess the progress achieved but also highlighted the importance of their ongoing political dialogue. Both nations share remarkably aligned positions on numerous regional, international, and global issues, fostering a robust partnership that is beneficial to both. Bourita praised the highly productive economic cooperation between Morocco and Switzerland, noting that over forty Swiss firms have successfully established operations in Morocco, significantly contributing to the nation's economic dynamism and job creation.

Commitment to Cooperation and Migration Management

During the meeting, Bourita reiterated Morocco's commitment to diversifying its partnerships in accordance with the High Guidelines set forth by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. He declared that Morocco and Switzerland are collaboratively developing a successful cooperation model with tangible outcomes. Addressing the sensitive issue of Moroccan Sahara, he remarked that Switzerland's stance represents an evolution in their bilateral relationship, aligning with the latest UN Security Council resolution and enhancing international dynamics surrounding this matter. Furthermore, he characterized the consular and migration cooperation as exemplary, illustrating a pragmatic and responsible approach to combatting human trafficking networks, in collaboration with source, transit, and destination countries.

Bourita stressed the necessity for concrete results, moving beyond mere rhetoric or political posturing, to build a tangible cooperation model that yields visible outcomes. This partnership is particularly aimed at streamlining migration procedures and providing support to legal residents, including the Moroccan community in Switzerland, which consists of over 24,000 fully integrated individuals. Regarding those in irregular situations, he assured that Morocco would work closely with Switzerland to facilitate their return to their home country. He highlighted the evident results in terms of issued travel documents and expedited identification processes, alongside regular dialogues between Moroccan consular services and Swiss authorities. This serene partnership is yielding mutual benefits for both nations.
