Inaugural Run4Rabies Event in Morocco: A Step Towards Eradicating Rabies

This Sunday, April 26, 2026, Morocco will host its first-ever Run4Rabies event, aiming to raise awareness about the persistent threat of rabies in the region. The initiative underscores the fact that rabies is a completely preventable disease through vaccination, education, and responsible pet ownership. Run4Rabies Morocco is set to unite businesses, runners, families, and animal lovers for a morning filled with sport, camaraderie, and community spirit, illustrating that this event is not merely a race but a movement to inform and engage the public on a critical public health issue that is often overlooked. Alarmingly, rabies continues to claim around 59,000 lives each year.

Sara Benhabbari, organizer of the event and a representative of the Moroccan Marathon Runners, who also serves as a GARC rabies ambassador, expressed her enthusiasm: "Run4Rabies Morocco is a community event. By combining sports with awareness, we hope to encourage the public to learn about rabies prevention and join the global movement to end deaths associated with this disease." This initiative seeks to create a significant impact, fostering a culture of awareness and proactive approaches toward rabies.

The event will feature several race formats, making it accessible to participants of all ages and fitness levels. Among these is the Canicross, a unique race where participants run alongside their dogs, celebrating the bond between physical wellness and animal welfare. The schedule for Sunday, April 26, is as follows: 07:00 – Opening of the village, 08:00 – Start of the Canicross, and 08:30 – Starts for both the 5 km and 10 km races.

Run4Rabies Morocco aspires to become an annual highlight for awareness, solidarity, and action against rabies. For those interested in participating, registration is available at run4rabies.ticketing.ma. This event not only promotes health and fitness but also emphasizes the importance of community involvement in the fight against rabies, making it a vital occasion for all.
