Major Military Collaboration Begins in Morocco
The 22nd edition of the 'African Lion' military exercise has officially commenced in southern Morocco, marking it as the largest of its kind on the African continent. Jointly organized by the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and the U.S. military, this extensive maneuver aims to bolster cooperation among participating forces and enhance preparedness for contemporary security challenges. Over 5,000 soldiers are set to engage in various activities until May 8, focusing on technical and organizational integration among the diverse militaries involved.
According to Major General Mohammed Benlouali, this gathering is crucial for increasing operational readiness and deepening mutual expertise among forces. Brigadier General Daniel Cederman from the U.S. Army emphasized the goal of building military capabilities that can respond swiftly and effectively to shared challenges. Participants hail from approximately 40 countries, some actively involved in the exercises while others observe from the sidelines.
Focus on Modern Technologies and Community Engagement
This year's exercise places a significant emphasis on new technologies, with soldiers training in areas such as drone operation, cybersecurity defense, and security in both outer space and the electromagnetic spectrum. The drills are taking place at various locations including Agadir, Tan-Tan, and Dakhla. In addition to ground, air, and maritime military exercises, there is a vital social component to the event. A field hospital in the Taroudant province is providing medical and surgical care to the local population, underscoring the civil significance of the cooperation between the participating nations.
