Debate Over the 2030 World Cup Final Venue Heats Up
The location for the final match of the 2030 World Cup has once again become a topic of intense discussion. Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, asserted on Wednesday that, "as long as Gianni Infantino remains at the helm of FIFA and barring any unexpected developments," the decisive match is likely to take place in Morocco. Conversely, Rafael Louzán, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), firmly supported the opposing view, claiming that Spain will host the final.
Louzán was emphatic during his speech at the World Football Summit held in Madrid, stating, "The data supports our case, as do our arguments... It is crystal clear that Spain deserves to host the final... Spain guarantees success; there should be no doubt about that." His comments came in the wake of Tebas highlighting Morocco as a potential venue for the final match. Tebas emphasized the influence of Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, who also serves as the Minister of Finance and is a member of FIFA's Executive Committee. He suggested that if Lekjaa has declared that the final would be in Morocco, it must be for a valid reason.
Furthermore, Tebas used the construction of the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca as an example, arguing that its dimensions and features indicate Morocco's aspirations to host the tournament's most significant match. He also criticized the lack of involvement from LaLiga in the organization of the World Cup, despite overseeing access to Spanish stadiums, and acknowledged that relations with the current government are "not good." Thus, as Tebas focuses on Morocco, Louzán continues to advocate for Spain as the rightful host of the World Cup final. He expressed hope that Infantino's upcoming visit to Madrid will facilitate progress in preparations for an event jointly organized by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
