Uganda Cranes Friendly Matches Canceled Due to Health Concerns

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has made an official announcement regarding the cancellation of two international friendly matches that were set to feature the Uganda Cranes in Morocco this month. Initially scheduled to take place at the Stade de Marrakech, the Uganda Cranes were supposed to go head-to-head with Tanzania on June 5, 2026, followed by a match against Madagascar on June 8, 2026. These fixtures were intended to serve as preparation for the team ahead of their upcoming competitive engagements.

According to FUFA's Director of Communications, Ahmed Hussein, the decision to cancel the matches was made following communication from relevant authorities, relayed through the match organizers, who cited health-related concerns as the primary reason. "The two international friendly matches against Tanzania and Madagascar have been canceled due to sanitary and public health considerations as communicated by authorities through our match agents," Hussein explained.

In expressing regret over the situation, Hussein emphasized the federation's commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of the players, officials, and all stakeholders involved. He further articulated that the safety of players, team officials, and supporters remains paramount, and that FUFA will actively seek to engage with relevant stakeholders to explore alternative arrangements that can ensure the Uganda Cranes remain adequately prepared for their future assignments.

The cancellation is particularly significant as Uganda was looking to utilize these matches to assess player performance and build momentum in anticipation of future continental and international competitions. Similarly, both Tanzania and Madagascar had planned to leverage these friendlies to enhance their own preparations for upcoming engagements. As it stands, the Uganda Cranes will forgo two crucial international tests during the June FIFA window unless FUFA is able to secure alternative fixtures in the forthcoming days.
