A tragic incident occurred this Friday morning in the Al-Askar neighborhood of Marrakech, where a disabled woman lost her life due to a partial collapse of her bedroom ceiling within the family home. Reports indicate that the victim was living with her daughter, who had left the house just minutes before the accident transpired. The ceiling collapsed suddenly, preventing her from escaping due to her specific health condition.
The collapse produced a loud noise that alerted local residents, who rushed to the scene. Emergency services were quick to arrive and began the arduous task of rescuing the victim from the debris. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her severe injuries at the site of the accident.
Local police and forensic teams also arrived to conduct necessary field examinations. A judicial investigation was initiated under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor's office to ascertain the circumstances and details surrounding the incident. Preliminary estimates suggest that the house, being old, suffered from structural deterioration, leading to the hypothesis that the weakness of the ceiling was a primary cause of the collapse.
In response to the incident, local authorities have temporarily evacuated the house while awaiting the results of a technical assessment regarding the safety of the building and surrounding homes.
