EasyJet Launches New Base in Marrakech Aiming for 4 Million Passengers in First Year

EasyJet Expands Operations in Morocco with New Base

The inauguration of EasyJet's new base at Marrakech Menara Airport took place on April 15, 2026, marked by the presence of Achraf Fayda, the Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), and Kenton Jarvis, the Director General of EasyJet. This strategic move is designed to enhance Morocco's air travel sector significantly. The ONMT announced that this new base will feature three aircraft, potentially offering up to 4 million seats within its first operational year. This initiative aims to dramatically increase passenger flow to Morocco from key European markets.

As Morocco continues to strengthen its position in the aviation sector, the establishment of EasyJet's base represents a vital operational asset for promoting the destination. The base will not only provide a significant number of seats but also enhance connectivity between Morocco and its main markets. During the inauguration, both Fayda and Jarvis emphasized the importance of this development in bolstering air traffic and tourism.

With the new base in Marrakech, EasyJet plans to launch six new routes, bringing its total routes connecting Morocco to 58. These new connections will include direct flights from Marrakech to Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich starting in the winter of 2026, while spring 2026 will see new services from Nantes to Essaouira, Bordeaux to Agadir, and Birmingham to Agadir. Additionally, existing routes from Marrakech to Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg will be maintained year-round, ensuring robust connectivity for travelers.

The launch of this base is anticipated to create approximately 100 direct jobs, alongside numerous indirect employment opportunities, thus revitalizing the local tourism ecosystem. This initiative is a continuation of the strategic partnership established between ONMT and EasyJet in the fall of 2025, aimed at enhancing Morocco's connectivity, diversifying its markets, and supporting balanced tourism growth. The partnership will also develop EasyJet holidays, offering more than 70 accommodations in Marrakech, contributing to the area's tourism potential.

Since its entry into the Moroccan market in 2006, EasyJet has transported nearly 20 million passengers to the Kingdom and currently operates five major airports, including Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier. This expansion underscores EasyJet's commitment to enhancing its service offering and promoting Morocco's diverse tourist attractions.
