Strengthening Business Ties: CEPYME President's Visit to Melilla

The President of the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (CEPYME), Ángela de Miguel, is currently visiting the autonomous city of Melilla. This visit was orchestrated by the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Melilla, with the primary aim of meeting with representatives from the Government Delegation and the local Executive. The overarching goal of the discussions is to bolster the business fabric of the city and to gain an insight into the sector's needs, enabling these concerns to be communicated effectively to Madrid.

Enrique Alcoba, the President of the Entrepreneurs of Melilla (CEME), elaborated on the purpose of inviting de Miguel, stating that they wish for her to gather all the issues faced by local entrepreneurs and present them to the relevant ministries, given that Ángela de Miguel also serves as the Vice President of the CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations). He emphasized the pressing concerns regarding the two primary entry and exit points, namely Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula, with the intention that she will advocate for the necessary demands to the respective ministries.

Alcoba highlighted several persistent issues discussed with de Miguel, such as the commercial customs operation that should be functional, the crucial Social Security bonus that is set to expire on December 31, and the need for continued subsidies in the transportation of goods. In terms of customs operations, the CEPYME president has acknowledged this request, stating, "We will urge the central government to open the border, facilitating natural commercial relations with our neighbors, similar to the majority of borders in other regions of the peninsula."

In her meeting with the Government Delegation and the autonomous city's Executive, de Miguel expressed the need for all public policies to be focused on supporting small and medium enterprises. She concluded by asserting that if there is to be a future for Melilla, it must be anchored in the strength of its businesses.
