Tissa Celebrates Traditional Equestrian Heritage

Tissa's Traditional Equestrian Heritage Celebration

The town of Tissa, located in the Taounate province of Morocco, recently hosted a remarkable event celebrating traditional equestrian heritage, known as Tbourida. From April 16 to 18, 2026, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse organized regional qualifications in Tbourida, which culminated in the selection of 12 adult groups and 6 junior groups from the Fes-Meknes region to compete in the inter-regional championships in Bouznika, vying for the prestigious Hassan II Tbourida Award in Rabat.

This competition attracted significant participation, with 63 groups competing, including 54 for adults and 9 for juniors, totaling around 1200 horsemen representing the cities of Fes, Meknes, Taounate, and Taza. The final results saw 12 adult groups qualifying out of a total of 54, comprised of 4 from Fes, 2 from Taza, 2 from Meknes, and 4 from Taounate. In the junior category, 6 out of 9 groups qualified, which included 2 from Fes, 2 from Meknes, and 2 from Taounate.

Mustafa Mallaki, a representative of the Wifaq Association for Equestrianism and Culture in Tissa, praised the excellent organization of the event, highlighting the substantial turnout of visitors from Taounate and surrounding areas. This event not only showcased the skills of the participants but also celebrated the rich cultural traditions associated with Tbourida, a traditional equestrian performance that embodies the historical and cultural values of Moroccan heritage. The enthusiasm and support from various stakeholders played a crucial role in the event's success, making it a memorable experience for all involved.

The qualified groups will represent the Taza-Fes-Meknes region at the inter-regional championships set to take place in May in Bouznika, further leading to the prestigious Hassan II Tbourida Award in Rabat.
