Three Senegalese football fans who had been imprisoned in Morocco since the Africa Cup of Nations final three months ago have finally been released. They served a three-month sentence after being convicted for their involvement in the violence that erupted during the match held in Rabat on January 18. The fans were greeted by representatives from the Senegalese embassy upon their release this past Saturday. Their charges included "vandalism," which encompasses acts of violence particularly against law enforcement, damage to sports equipment, pitch invasions, and throwing projectiles.
Furthermore, it is important to note that 15 other Senegalese fans are currently serving sentences ranging from six months to a year, with their convictions upheld in an appeal court on Monday. In a related incident, a French national of Algerian descent was also released on the same day after completing three months in prison for throwing a water bottle during the final.
