The Underlying Issues Facing Raja Casablanca's Coach and Players
In recent developments within Raja Casablanca's football camp, head coach Paco Khemis has been addressing concerns regarding three seasoned players who were omitted from the squad in their opening match against Nahda Athletic Zemmamra in the ongoing national professional league. According to insider sources, Khemis held discussions with Mohamed Makkazi, Ayman Barqouq, and Ayoub El Almoud, aiming to reassure them about their future with the club and the potential for their reintegration into the starting lineup as the season progresses. This is particularly significant as these players were key figures under the previous coach, Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi, and had been regularly participating in the pre-season friendlies.
The three players expressed their understanding of the coach's decision, viewing it as a normal part of the team's strategic needs aimed at ensuring the best outcomes for Raja Casablanca. Their primary concern remains the club's pursuit of another championship title this season, especially following disappointing performances in the last two years.
In another concerning development for the team, initial medical evaluations have revealed that player Shamseddine Qandil has sustained a toe fracture, which is expected to sideline him for an extended period. This injury poses a significant challenge as Raja prepares for their upcoming matches against both Maghreb Fez and Fath Union Sport, scheduled for rounds three and four of the league respectively.
Qandil underwent further tests to determine the exact duration of his absence from match play. As of now, Khemis has not publicly stated who will replace Qandil, though options remain between Amin Khmiss and Ayoub El Almoud, with the latter possibly being tested on the left flank, despite being primarily a right-back.
Raja Casablanca is set to engage in two matches within five days, with the first against Maghreb Fez taking place on Thursday at the Grand Stadium of Fez, followed by a match against Fath Union Sport on the following Tuesday at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, both kicking off at 8 PM.
Notably, the team will also benefit from the return of Jordanian player Mohamed Bouzriq, nicknamed "Charara," who has recently concluded his national duties after being called up by Moroccan coach Badou Zaki for friendly matches against Syria and Venezuela. "Charara" is expected to contest for a starting position on the right wing against his teammate Walid El Sheikh, who performed admirably in the recent match against Nahda Zemmamra. However, the return of the international player may place El Sheikh's starting role in jeopardy, given Bouzriq's vast experience and skill level.
