Supreme Court Reviews Case to Annul Election of Parliamentary Member and Community Leader in Taza Province

Supreme Court Evaluates Election Cancellation Case

On June 18, 2026, the Supreme Court in Rabat is set to deliberate on a petition filed against a ruling from the Administrative Appeals Court in Fes, which pertains to the annulment of the election of Ghazi Ajdiyou, a former parliamentarian and current head of the Benifrasen community. This case stems from the partial elections held in Benifrasen in 2025, where Ajdiyou was elected as a communal councilor. The previous ruling was upheld by the administrative appeals court, which had already endorsed the initial decision to annul Ajdiyou's election following an appeal made by his defense team, seeking to overturn the original ruling.

Approximately a month prior, Ajdiyou's legal representatives appealed against the ruling issued by the Fes Administrative Court on April 22, 2025, which declared the annulment of his election as valid. During the elections, Ajdiyou, representing the Party of Authenticity and Modernity, secured a seat in the 16th electoral district of the rural Benifrasen community, amassing 179 votes against a mere 11 votes for his opponent from the Independence Party and 19 votes for a candidate from the Democratic Left Federation. Following the elections, the results were contested, leading to the annulment of his seat.

Ajdiyou, known in media circles as "Mr. His Wife," had a brief return to political life after he previously faced removal from office and was under investigation for corruption. He had nominated his wife to run against family members, including his mother, for council membership. Notably, he was acquitted a year and a half ago of charges related to the embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds, which had resulted in his earlier dismissal. This current case represents a significant episode in the ongoing legal and political saga surrounding Ajdiyou and his electoral legitimacy.
