Empowering African Nations Through Renewable Energy Capacity Building
Uniting representatives from 17 African nations, this program, initiated under the Solar Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI), seeks to enhance the capabilities of public institutions in designing, launching, and managing competitive tenders for renewable energy development. Following the inaugural workshop held in Rabat from October 27 to 31, 2025, this second gathering signifies a pivotal moment in the program. Its primary objective is to build on the knowledge gained from the virtual sessions conducted over the past nine months and to support participants in the implementation of their national action plans. The agenda includes technical sessions, collaborative exercises, and peer exchanges focused on structuring projects to ensure their bankability, risk distribution, and allocation mechanisms.
The workshop commences with a visit to the NOOR Ouarzazate solar complex, one of the most iconic solar projects globally, providing participants with a concrete immersion into Moroccan expertise in energy transition and grounding the week’s activities in real-world applications. Through this training program, MASEN reaffirms its commitment to South-South cooperation and supporting partner countries in their energy transition efforts.
The agencies overseeing the program include ESMAP – a World Bank Group initiative; PPIAF – another World Bank Group program; Desert to Power – an African Development Bank initiative; and GET.transform – part of the German cooperation through GIZ.
