A widely circulated audio recording has ignited significant controversy within the academic circles of Marrakech, Morocco. This recording allegedly features a conversation between a university official and a student, leading to varied reactions and increasing questions about the authenticity of its content.
In light of this uproar, university professor and human rights activist Abdelhak Gharib has called upon the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, along with the administration of Cadi Ayyad University, to intervene swiftly and address the situation, which has sparked extensive debate among students and those following university matters.
Gharib, in a statement to Telegraphe.ma, emphasized that the contents attributed to the leaked audio raise numerous concerns due to the shocking phrases and information it contains, which many observers have found alarming. He underscored the necessity of verifying the authenticity of the recording or denying it to clarify the situation for the public.
Additionally, he urged the relevant authorities to issue an official statement that clarifies their stance on the circulating recording. He called for an investigation to unveil all circumstances surrounding the issue and to impose appropriate legal and administrative consequences based on the findings.
Gharib pointed out that if the recording is proven to be genuine, necessary actions must be taken against anyone found to be involved, to uphold the reputation of public universities and maintain principles of integrity and transparency within educational institutions.
Conversely, he noted that if the recording is ultimately deemed false, it would be imperative to pursue those responsible for disseminating or promoting its contents, particularly if it is found to contain misleading information that could harm the university’s reputation and its staff.
All eyes are currently on the official entities involved, as the academic community awaits a clear position that will put an end to the ongoing debate and reveal the truth behind the recording that has become the talk of the university town of Marrakech.
