Souss-Massa: Launch of the Territorial Health Group
In a significant step towards enhancing the healthcare system, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch recently chaired the inaugural meeting of the Board of Directors for the Territorial Health Group (GST) in the Souss-Massa region, held in Agadir. This initiative is a pivotal part of the ongoing reform of the national health system, which aligns with royal directives aimed at structurally transforming the healthcare sector across the country.
The establishment of this new framework is designed to bolster several initiatives already initiated in other regions, reflecting a commitment to establishing localized health governance. The model emphasizes autonomous management, improved performance across healthcare facilities, and enhanced coordination among various levels of care, while also taking into consideration the specific realities of local communities.
An Organization Designed for Enhanced Efficiency
During this inaugural session, the board members approved the budget and action plan for 2026 and 2027, as well as the organizational structure and the status of healthcare professionals associated with the GST. The effective launch of this structure is anticipated for August 2026, marking a crucial milestone in the region's health governance.
The discussions highlighted the strategic importance of the Souss-Massa region, driven by a robust population growth. The Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, operational since 2025, plays a central role with its advanced capabilities, including robotic surgery. Furthermore, the meeting underscored the need to enhance human resources and implement an integrated health information system aimed at improving patient care pathways, facilitating access to services, and boosting the overall effectiveness of the regional healthcare system.
