Call for a Balanced Approach in Fan Detention Case
The president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, has recently expressed the need for a thoughtful and measured approach regarding the case of 18 Senegalese fans who are currently detained in Morocco. Following the Africa Cup of Nations final, these fans faced serious repercussions, as Moroccan courts have imposed prison sentences that range from three months to a year due to allegations of misconduct and rioting during the event. Fall emphasized the importance of stepping back to analyze the situation with a focus on finding effective solutions. In an interview with a Senegalese news agency, he remarked, “It is a painful situation that affects everyone. I believe that sporting disputes should be resolved within sporting bodies.” He voiced strong opposition to the idea of escalating these disputes into the judicial system, cautioning that doing so could establish a dangerous precedent for future sporting events.
