Quebec Firm Secures Major Contract for FIFA 2030
The renowned Quebec-based Groupe Ombrages has been awarded the prestigious contract to design the lighting for the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, Morocco, in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2030. This significant announcement was made by Mehdi Laieb, the founder and CEO of the company, whose team comprises around twenty dedicated professionals. The objective of this ambitious project is to create a lighting design that not only meets technical requirements but also enhances the architectural beauty of the stadium, located in the vibrant southwestern Moroccan city of Agadir.
Established in 1999 in Beauceville, Groupe Ombrages has a rich history of illuminating iconic Quebec landmarks, including the Jacques-Cartier and Samuel-De Champlain bridges, as well as Old Montreal and Place Ville-Marie. The firm has also contributed to major projects such as the Montreal Airport and the city's metro system, showcasing its expertise in sophisticated lighting design.
In an interview with Le Journal de Montréal, Laieb emphasized the importance of Quebec businesses exploring international opportunities. He stated, "We should not have an inferiority complex. It is essential to open ourselves up and collaborate with other countries." His vision extends beyond mere functionality; he believes that lighting should be aesthetically pleasing to inspire public engagement and participation.
This lighting design project follows another significant contract won by Groupe Ombrages two years ago, concerning the lighting for the Grand Stade Hassan II, which is set to become the largest football stadium in the world, boasting a capacity of 115,000 seats. Morocco aims for this stadium to host the final of the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal.
