Price Increase for Rabat-Salé Tramway Users: What You Need to Know

Recent Fare Hikes for the Rabat-Salé Tramway

The recent adjustments to the fare structure of the Rabat-Salé tramway have sent ripples of concern among its users. Effective from July 1, 2026, passengers are now required to pay a higher fare for their journeys. The price of an individual ticket has increased from 6 dirhams to 7 dirhams, regardless of whether it is purchased in paper or electronic format. Furthermore, monthly subscription plans have also seen a rise, with the general public subscription, known as "Irtiah," increasing from 250 to 270 dirhams. Similarly, student subscriptions are now priced at 170 dirhams, up from 150 dirhams. This decision is part of a broader effort by the tramway management to address rising operational and maintenance costs while ensuring the quality and expansion of services offered.

Justification for the Price Increases

The tramway management company has cited the need for these fare increases as essential to maintaining service quality and facilitating ongoing network development. As urban growth continues and public transport demand escalates, the company is under pressure to enhance its infrastructure and service offerings. Additionally, plans for new extensions to areas such as Yacoub El Mansour and Témara are in the pipeline, which aims to better accommodate the increasing population and their transport needs. While these reasons highlight the necessity for the fare hike, they have also sparked a dialogue among users and stakeholders about the implications of these changes on daily commuters.
