On Saturday, agents of the National Police apprehended a French national in Ceuta as he attempted to flee to Morocco following an incident of domestic violence involving his partner. The individual was located in the vehicle holding area, where he was identified and subsequently detained while waiting to cross the Tarajal border into the neighboring country.
According to sources from the National Police who spoke to _El Faro_, before his arrest, the man was at the port with his partner. It was at this location that he struck her, sparking outrage among bystanders who witnessed the act. Concerned citizens promptly alerted the police, reporting the incident that was clearly linked to the issue of gender-based violence.
After the altercation, the detained individual left his partner at a supermarket as he made his way towards Morocco. However, the National Police, having already received reports about the situation, managed to detain him right there at the Loma Colmenar vehicle holding area, just moments before he could cross the border.
The suspect was taken to police facilities and is now required to face judicial proceedings due to the assault on the woman with whom he was involved. The swift intervention by the police was made possible largely due to the timely reports from witnesses who observed the events unfold. Such community collaboration proved crucial, allowing officers to act quickly and apprehend the suspect at the scene.
Currently, Ceuta is monitoring nearly 300 cases of gender-based violence under police surveillance. The VioGén system plays a vital role in centralizing information from various administrations and security forces, aiming to assess risks, coordinate protection measures, and enable effective follow-ups by the police. Each case file integrates data about the victim's situation, the evolving risk factors, and the actions taken by law enforcement since the report was activated.
