On Tuesday, April 14, a Ryanair flight took off from Vatry Airport in Marne, France, bound for Marrakech, Morocco, but left behind all 192 passengers who were unable to board. According to the airport's director, the incident was attributed to an insufficient number of security personnel available on that particular day. As the passengers watched helplessly from the terminal, they were informed that their plane had taken off without them.
Jacques Ligier, a frustrated passenger, recounted that some people had returned to the terminal only to discover that the plane they were set to board had just departed. Another passenger, Michèle Oudin, was traveling with her husband to celebrate their disabled daughter's birthday and had spent 1,500 euros on the tickets. "It's infuriating. It breaks my heart because this is the only way we have, while we are still on Earth, to allow her to travel. This trip meant a lot to us. Now, it's all been ruined, and she feels a lot of resentment," she lamented.
The three-and-a-half-hour flight to Marrakech left the airport empty, as there were not enough security staff present during the terminal's opening, according to Fabrice Pauquet, the airport director. "When the terminal opened, we found ourselves without our security and safety team. This is a service provider at the airport, and we gradually learned about the delays due to all of them being on sick leave," Pauquet explained.
In light of the situation, the airport has advised passengers to seek refunds directly from Ryanair. However, under these circumstances, the airline does not bear responsibility for the passengers missing their flight.
