Partial Elections in Fes-Meknes: Filling 46 Vacant Seats Across Nine Provinces

Overview of the Upcoming Elections in Fes-Meknes

In a significant political development, the Fes-Meknes region is set to conduct partial elections aimed at filling 46 vacant seats across various local councils within its nine provinces. This initiative follows the Ministry of Interior's declaration of these seats as vacant for numerous reasons, prompting the establishment of specific timelines for candidacy submissions and the electoral campaign ahead of selecting new council members for these open positions.

Leading the charge is the province of Boulemane, which has the highest number of vacant seats at 14, accounting for nearly a quarter of the total vacancies. Notably, the Boulemane municipality is seeking to fill four seats, three of which are designated for women in electoral districts 9 and 8, with one additional female seat in district 7. Following closely is the municipality of Missour, where elections will be held to fill two female seats in districts 1 and 9, alongside one seat in district 6 in Kikir, and another in the first district of the municipality of Al-Mis Marmoucha, as well as two seats in districts 10 and 11 in the municipality of Serghina.

Distribution of Vacant Seats Across Provinces

The province of Hajeb ranks second in terms of vacant seats, with 11 primarily female positions needing to be filled, particularly across local councils in Sebaa Ayoun, Aqdar, Ait Yaazem, Ras Ijiri, Jahjouh, Btit, and Ait Bourzouine, each requiring one seat. Additionally, the municipalities of Ain Taujdat and Ait Harzallah are seeking two seats each. The province of Taounate has seven vacant seats, predominantly for women, spread across municipalities such as Beni Walid, Khalifa, Al-Bayban, Al-Makanisa, Bouchebal, Al-Walija, and Qaryat Bou Muhammad, with each municipality holding one seat. Meanwhile, the province of Sefrou is looking to fill six seats, with two each in the municipalities of Imouzzer Kandar, Ain Chkak, and Al-Aynsour.

Furthermore, elections will also take place in the Meknes region and the province of Moulay Yacoub to fill three vacant seats each in Boufkrane, Al-Mahaya, and Ain Al-Jumua in Meknes, and Sbate Loudaya and Sidi Dawoud in Moulay Yacoub. Additionally, there are two seats up for grabs in the municipalities of Dayaa Aoua and Ain Al-Louh in Ifran, along with a single seat in the municipality of Bouchafaa in Taza.
