In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Morocco have convened to explore avenues for enhancing collaboration in social and family development. The meeting, which took place in Rabat, highlighted the mutual commitment of both nations to address pressing family issues and bolster social progress. Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, Oman’s Minister of Social Development, met with Naima Ibn Yahya, Morocco’s Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, during an official visit aimed at sharing successful experiences and fostering bilateral cooperation.
Focus on Social Welfare and Women's Empowerment
The discussions were comprehensive, covering pivotal areas such as social welfare systems, child and family protection, elderly care, and empowerment programs for people with disabilities. A critical aspect of the dialogue was the emphasis on advancing women’s empowerment, with both sides reflecting on the Moroccan model of developing social welfare institutions and strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations. Furthermore, they addressed the needs of the disability sector, particularly regarding access to services and facilities for persons with disabilities.
On the sidelines of this meeting, Dr. Al-Najjar engaged with Dr. Abdeljabbar Rachidi, the Secretary of State responsible for Social Integration in Morocco, to discuss legislative frameworks that promote the independence and inclusion of individuals with disabilities, as well as the health and social services available to them. Additionally, a separate meeting with Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, focused on enhancing collaboration in child safety and cultural development, further solidifying the partnership between Oman and this influential organization.
These discussions underscore the ongoing efforts of both Oman and Morocco to deepen their collaboration and exchange best practices in social development and family welfare, reflecting a shared vision for a more inclusive and supportive society.
