National March in Marrakech Celebrates Amazigh Heritage and Identity

On Sunday, Marrakech witnessed a massive national march organized by representatives of the Amazigh movement, commemorating the Amazigh Spring, a significant historical milestone in the struggle for recognition of Amazigh identity and culture. The march commenced from one of the city's main streets, attracting a diverse group of participants, including human rights activists, civil society members, students, and citizens from various regions across Morocco. Participants proudly waved Amazigh flags and displayed banners advocating for the recognition of the Amazigh language and culture, emphasizing the need for their enhanced presence in various aspects of public life.

The voices of the marchers echoed calls for the official recognition of the Amazigh language and urged for its integration into education, administration, and media, while also advocating for the protection of Amazigh cultural heritage. Many reiterated their commitment to a multi-faceted national identity, underlining that Amazigh culture is a fundamental component of Moroccan identity.

Several speakers during the event expressed that the commemoration of the Amazigh Spring serves not only as an occasion for celebration but also as an opportunity to assess achievements and identify challenges, particularly regarding the implementation of regulatory laws related to the official status of the Amazigh language.
