Moustapha Budchich Takes on a New Role as Economic Representative in Morocco
Moustapha Budchich, who is currently serving as the chief of staff for Brussels Minister Ahmed Laaouej from the Socialist Party (PS), has been appointed as the economic representative of the Brussels-Capital Region in Morocco, effective September 1. This strategic move has been confirmed by the cabinet of Minister-President Boris Dilliès (MR) and reported by L'Echo.
Significance of the Appointment and Budget Allocation
This appointment comes at a time when several Brussels economic representation offices abroad are facing closure due to budget constraints, posing a significant challenge for hub.brussels, the agency responsible for the region's foreign trade. However, the office in Rabat is deemed a priority by the regional authorities, who recognize it as a critical market for their economic and international policy. Consequently, the budget for the Moroccan office will be bolstered, and Budchich will be tasked with developing a new Brussels strategy for this region.
Notably, Budchich's appointment deviates from the traditional recruitment process for Brussels representatives abroad, as his selection was made upon the recommendation of Boris Dilliès. The Minister-President's cabinet clarified that this is not an ordinary administrative recruitment but rather a government designation for a specific representation mission. The new role will be classified at the A5 level, which is equivalent to a general management position within the regional administration, and it offers an annual gross salary ranging from €115,000 to €150,000.
