Morocco Reports 600 New COVID-19 Cases Amid Vaccination Progress

COVID-19 Update in Morocco

The Moroccan Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that the country recorded 600 new cases of COVID-19, alongside 520 recoveries, and 7 deaths within the last 24 hours. The total number of individuals who have received the first dose of the vaccination has reached 4,707,658.

According to the Ministry's daily epidemiological report on COVID-19, the total number of people who have received the second dose of the vaccine stands at 4,207,298. This recent surge in infections has raised the cumulative total of confirmed cases in Morocco to 507,938 since the first case was reported on March 2, 2020. The total number of complete recoveries has reached 493,873, indicating a recovery rate of 97.2%, while the death toll has climbed to 8,976, reflecting a fatality rate of 1.8%.

Distribution of Cases and Deaths

During the last 24 hours, the newly reported cases are distributed across various regions of Morocco, with Casablanca-Settat recording the highest number at 421 cases, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kenitra with 51 cases, and Marrakech-Safi with 26. Other regions such as the East reported 20 cases, Souss-Massa saw 19, while the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima regions both recorded 16 cases. The Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region had 14 cases, Guelmim-Oued Noun reported 6, and both Beni Mellal-Khenifra and Drâa-Tafilalet each saw 4 cases, with Fès-Meknès reporting 3 cases.

The reported deaths were concentrated in the Casablanca-Settat region with 4 fatalities, while Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, and Fès-Meknès each recorded 1 death.

The report also indicates that the cumulative incidence rate in Morocco is now 1,396.6 cases per 100,000 residents, with an incidence of 1.6 cases per 100,000 within the last 24 hours. Currently, the total number of active cases receiving treatment stands at 5,089.

Furthermore, the number of new severe or critical cases in intensive care units recorded in the last 24 hours is 50, bringing the total to 381 cases, of which 14 are on invasive mechanical ventilation and 207 on non-invasive ventilation. The occupancy rate of intensive care beds designated for COVID-19 patients is reported to be 12.1%.
