Morocco Gears Up for the 2030 World Cup with Ambitious Infrastructure Investments

Transformative Infrastructure Investments for 2030

Morocco is strategically positioning itself for the 2030 World Cup by launching an ambitious investment program aimed at enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure and boosting its logistical capabilities. This initiative is designed to provide an exceptional experience for both fans and participating teams during the prestigious tournament. Central to this plan is the construction of a new international airport in Casablanca, along with the expansion of several key airports across the nation. The total investments are projected to exceed $4 billion, with the goal of doubling the country’s airport capacity from 40 million to 80 million passengers annually by 2030.

Expanding Air Travel and Rail Connectivity

In conjunction with these airport developments, Royal Air Maroc is set to embark on the largest expansion plan in its history, with plans to increase its fleet from 70 to 200 aircraft by 2035. This ambitious project, valued at approximately $25 billion, seeks to enhance air connectivity between Morocco and various continents, particularly Europe and Asia. Furthermore, the initiative includes an investment of nearly $10 billion in the railway network, which will facilitate the expansion of high-speed rail lines and improve connections between cities and airports. This will significantly ease travel for fans during the World Cup. Currently, Morocco boasts the “Al Boraq,” Africa's fastest high-speed train, which operates at speeds of 320 km/h, connecting Tangier to Casablanca in just over an hour. Plans are also in place to extend this line to Marrakech, thereby reducing travel times between major cities considerably.
