Enhancing Medical Tourism in Morocco
Morocco is actively enhancing its offerings in the field of specialized medical tourism, particularly in nephrology services. Diaverum Morocco, a key player in this sector, has reported the completion of over 1,700 dialysis sessions for international patients across its centers located in Marrakech, Agadir, and Meknès. This initiative caters specifically to individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease who have opted to continue their treatment while enjoying tourism or business trips in Morocco.
Ensuring Continuous Care for Dialysis Patients
For dialysis patients, traveling abroad involves meticulous planning due to the frequency of their treatment sessions, which typically occur multiple times a week. The availability of specialized facilities and the assurance of continuous care are essential prerequisites for facilitating these travels. Charles-Alexandre Thevenin, the General Director of Diaverum Morocco, emphasized that "Traveling should never be an inaccessible privilege for dialysis patients." The goal is to empower patients to travel while ensuring they receive care that meets high standards of medical safety and continuity.
Diaverum operates a network of over 450 specialized clinics across various countries, allowing international patients to receive treatment in its Moroccan centers while adhering to standardized care protocols and providing secure access to their medical information. This continuity is significantly supported by their international d.HOLIDAY program, which allows patients to schedule their dialysis sessions at different facilities within the network. Patients can make reservations in advance through the Bookdialysis platform, streamlining the organization of their care during their stay.
Additionally, the company highlights its use of digital solutions to enhance the medical follow-up of patients. The Moroccan centers employ connected tools that enable the secure sharing of medical data and standardize clinical practices across the international network. The d.CARE platform centralizes patient medical information, while the Treatment Guidance System (TGS) allows healthcare teams to document and monitor treatment data in real time. According to Diaverum, these technologies aim to improve care traceability, reduce the risk of errors, and facilitate patient monitoring. The group is also implementing predictive analytics tools powered by artificial intelligence to assist medical teams in identifying clinical risks more proactively.
Beyond its medical dimensions, this initiative contributes to the development of health tourism in Morocco. The Kingdom boasts significant advantages, including robust tourist infrastructure, proximity to European markets, and an evolving healthcare offering, which positions it well to welcome international patients seeking specialized care. Since its establishment in Morocco in 2019, Diaverum has been supporting over 900 patients across five specialized clinics located in Marrakech, Agadir, and Meknès.
