Morocco Celebrates Africa-Europe Partnership for Sustainable Growth

Strengthening Ties between Africa and Northern Europe

During a significant economic seminar held in Stockholm on the occasion of Africa Day 2026, Moroccan Ambassador to Sweden, Karim Madrek, emphasized the abundant opportunities presented by the partnership between Africa and Northern European countries. The seminar, themed "Solidarity between Africa and Northern Europe for Sustainable Growth," marked a pivotal moment for both regions, calling for a shift from dialogue to action. Madrek articulated that the demographic potential of the African continent stands as one of its most formidable strengths, highlighting African youth as a strategic asset that can drive innovation and prosperity.

Madrek stated, "Investing in African youth is an investment in stability, growth, innovation, and mutual prosperity." This perspective aligns with the growing recognition of Africa as a burgeoning hub for opportunities, entrepreneurship, and innovation, propelled by rapid urbanization, digital transformation, and economic integration. The ambassador further noted that the conversation should not be about whether Africa holds a significant position in the global economy, but rather how Northern European countries can enhance their strategic engagement with the continent through investment, trade, technology transfer, and the establishment of long-term partnerships.

Key Areas for Collaboration

The ambassador outlined several priority sectors for collaboration between Africa and Northern Europe, including renewable energy, digitalization, agriculture, education, industrial development, and innovation. He underscored the potential benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area, recognized as the largest free trade zone in the world by the number of participating countries. Madrek also emphasized the crucial role of trust, policy alignment, and sustained engagement in building robust partnerships, praising the African community in Sweden as a vital bridge connecting Africa and Northern Europe.

This seminar was part of the Africa Day celebrations, which this year carried the theme "United Africa: Land of Opportunities." Attendees included African officials and representatives from Northern European countries, all aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and achieving sustainable growth. The event featured impactful speeches from Swedish Minister of Migration Johan Forssell and Deputy President of Business Sweden Karl Malmqvist, engaging over 150 participants, including government officials, diplomats, economic actors, and members of the African diaspora.

The economic seminar concluded with a collective call to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen strategic partnerships between African nations and Northern European countries. The celebrations continued with a cultural event showcasing the richness and diversity of African heritage, attended by diplomats, political officials, academics, business leaders, and civil society representatives, all fostering an atmosphere of dialogue and cultural exchange. The Moroccan Embassy contributed to this cultural showcase by presenting a variety of traditional Moroccan dishes, allowing participants to discover the rich culinary heritage of the Kingdom.
