Reaffirming Strategic Ties Between Morocco and Mali
This past Friday, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali reaffirmed their commitment to rejuvenating their strategic partnership during the fourth session of the Moroccan-Malian Joint Cooperation Commission, which took place in Bamako. This significant meeting was co-chaired by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, along with his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop. The discussions allowed both delegations to assess the current state of bilateral cooperation across various sectors. The two ministers emphasized the profound bonds of friendship and fraternity that unite their nations, reiterating their desire to transform the Morocco-Mali relationship into a benchmark for African cooperation, grounded in solidarity, mutual respect, and exchange, in alignment with the vision of King Mohammed VI and Mali's transitional president, General Assimi Goïta.
Both parties celebrated the positive momentum of their mutually beneficial cooperation and highlighted the potential to expand this partnership into new strategic sectors. In this context, Morocco and Mali reiterated their commitment to sharing experiences and technical knowledge. Both governments recognized the value of recent technical missions conducted in their respective countries, aimed at promoting new cooperation projects, particularly in agriculture, energy, health, education, and training.
Enhancing Economic and Legal Frameworks
In the economic and commercial sphere, the two delegations underscored the importance of intensifying exchanges between Moroccan and Malian businesses. They also highlighted the Business Forum organized alongside the Joint Commission, which facilitated the identification of new investment opportunities and concrete actions to strengthen trade relations between the two countries. Additionally, both parties celebrated the enhancement of the legal framework governing their bilateral cooperation through the signing of several agreements and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring their implementation, thereby further consolidating the privileged relations between Morocco and Mali.
During a meeting held in Bamako on the same day, Mali's transitional president and head of state, General Assimi Goïta, reiterated his country's determination to continue strengthening cooperation with Morocco in all areas of mutual interest. This audience, which took place on the sidelines of the Joint Cooperation Commission, allowed the Malian head of state to express his satisfaction with the evolution of bilateral relations and the positive dynamics characterizing the cooperation between the two nations. General Goïta also thanked King Mohammed VI for Morocco's consistent stance in favor of Mali's sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity. He highlighted the bonds of friendship and solidarity between both countries and expressed gratitude for the multidimensional support Morocco provides to Mali.
The joint statement issued at the conclusion of the fourth session of the Great Joint Commission of Moroccan-Malian Cooperation emphasized the significance of the Atlantic Initiative promoted by King Mohammed VI as a tool to strengthen cooperation among African countries. In this regard, the Malian side recalled the audience granted on April 28, 2025, by King Mohammed VI to the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Sahel Alliance (AES) and reiterated their commitment to implementing this initiative, along with the progressive execution of the projects envisioned within its framework. The fourth session of the Moroccan-Malian Great Joint Commission concluded on Friday in Bamako under the co-chairmanship of Nasser Bourita and Abdoulaye Diop, aiming to usher in a new phase of political, economic, and technical cooperation between the two nations.
