In a significant operation, Morocco's police force, known as the DGSN, successfully seized close to three metric tons of cannabis following a high-speed pursuit of a suspicious vehicle near Benslimane, located approximately 60 kilometers northeast of Casablanca. This operation was detailed in an official statement released by the police on Saturday, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The successful seizure of 2.96 metric tonnes of cannabis was made possible through intelligence provided by the Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST) on Friday. Authorities identified a utility vehicle believed to be transporting illicit drugs intended for international trafficking networks. In a dramatic turn of events, the driver of the vehicle attempted to evade capture by driving against oncoming traffic on a highway, eventually abandoning the vehicle near Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca.
Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, police officials discovered a total of 75 packages of cannabis, which collectively weighed an impressive 2,960 kilograms. This operation underscores the persistent efforts of Moroccan authorities to dismantle drug trafficking operations that threaten the safety and security of the community.
In response to this incident, the police have initiated an investigation that will be conducted under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. This inquiry aims to identify and apprehend the suspect, as well as to explore potential connections to larger trafficking networks that operate within and beyond Moroccan borders.
