Moroccan Notaries Announce Open Strike Starting April 13, 2026

Moroccan Notaries to Halt Services in Protest

The National Association of Notaries in Morocco has officially declared an open-ended strike set to commence on Monday, April 13, 2026. This decision comes in response to the government’s neglect of the association's demands and comments regarding the proposed law aimed at regulating the notary profession, which has been approved by the House of Representatives and is currently undergoing legislative procedures in the House of Councilors. The announcement signals a significant escalation in the ongoing dispute between the notaries and the government.

A statement issued by the association's executive office emphasized that this comprehensive halt in professional services follows a series of previous protests, the most recent of which involved a suspension of services from February 18 to April 5, during which a demonstration took place outside the government headquarters last Thursday. The notaries are adamant about the necessity of engaging in meaningful and responsible dialogue with the government to address their legal and professional concerns.

Moreover, the association plans to organize a protest in front of the parliament on April 13, 2026, calling upon the heads of regional notary councils to participate in raising awareness about the motivations behind this escalation and to clarify its reasons to the public. They hold the government fully responsible for hindering citizens' interests and the provision of notarial services.
