Efforts to Improve Consular Access for Moroccans Abroad
The Moroccan Consulate in Almeria is actively implementing an exceptional program designed to facilitate access for the Moroccan community residing in this southern Spanish region to various consular services. This initiative, which operates over the weekends, reflects the ongoing efforts of Moroccan consular authorities to align their offerings with the growing needs of Moroccans living abroad, ensuring that services are delivered with both speed and quality.
This initiative is part of the broader policy of proximity adopted by the Moroccan Kingdom, following the directives of King Mohammed VI, which aims to prioritize the concerns of Moroccans worldwide within consular operations and strengthen their ties to their homeland. Furthermore, it embodies the directives issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, focusing on modernizing services, simplifying processes, and adapting them to the professional constraints faced by applicants.
In a media statement, the Moroccan Consul in Almeria, Soumia Fathi, emphasized that all consulate staff are mobilized to ensure the smooth operation of this initiative, which notably features extended reception hours and organized shifts during weekends. These measures are designed to provide the best possible reception conditions and ensure effective processing of requests, meeting the expectations of the Moroccan community in the area, which has a significant presence of Moroccan nationals. Fathi also highlighted that the issuance of documents now includes the apostille stamp, which simplifies administrative procedures for applicants.
Since February 11, the consulate has recorded over 13,000 requests, with a processing capacity of approximately 700 cases daily, reflecting the significant mobilization and engagement in this initiative. Concurrently, civil society organizations are contributing to this effort by providing certificates of vulnerability to affected individuals.
Many members of the Moroccan community benefiting from these services have expressed their satisfaction with the quality of reception and the effectiveness of the mechanisms in place, commending the ongoing care that King Mohammed VI shows towards Moroccans living abroad.
