On April 9 and 10, 2026, the Policy Center for the New South will host the launch of ‘The Oxford Handbook of the Moroccan Economy’ at its headquarters located on the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University campus in Rabat. This significant publication, overseen by editors Karim El Aynaoui and Arkebe Oqubay, is released by Oxford University Press and features contributions from 53 authors across 34 chapters. The book provides a comprehensive and historical analysis of the evolution of the Moroccan economy from 1960 to 2025, making it an essential resource for understanding the economic transformations that have taken place in Morocco.
The launch event is expected to gather experts, researchers, and policymakers who will engage in discussions about the major economic transformations in Morocco and explore future perspectives. This publication represents a significant contribution to academic research and political debate regarding Morocco's development trajectory. It is the first volume in the ‘Oxford Handbook’ series dedicated entirely to the Moroccan economy and aims to provide insight into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Addressing the advancements made by Morocco, as well as the limitations of this transformation, the book discusses key issues such as national impacts, technological modernization, private investment, and the creation of quality jobs. Furthermore, it contemplates the elements that will structure the next phase of the country's development trajectory, particularly in relation to higher value-added production and capacity building.
The launch will facilitate interactions among contributors, political decision-makers, and international experts to examine the key findings of the handbook and engage in dialogues surrounding strategic choices that will shape Morocco's next phase of economic transformation.
