The Moroccan Senate, in partnership with the Mediterranean Parliament, is set to host the fourth edition of the "Marrakech Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region" on June 19 and 20 in Marrakech. This initiative is held under royal patronage and in collaboration with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.
According to a statement from the Moroccan Senate, this year's forum continues the momentum established since its inception, aiming to reinforce a key economic parliamentary space within the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region. It serves as a platform for dialogue, consultation, and the exchange of expertise among parliamentarians, decision-makers, economic actors, and representatives of regional and international financial and economic institutions on developmental and economic issues of mutual interest.
The forum will focus on several priority topics, including global economic challenges, prospects for regional economic integration, promoting investment in artificial intelligence and modern technology, and enhancing sustainable job opportunities. Furthermore, it will address the impacts of climate change on food security and sustainable development.
A significant highlight of this edition will be a dedicated session on Africa, themed “The African Continental Free Trade Area and Connecting Euro-African Value Chains: Towards an Integrated Space for Joint Production, Investment, and Economic Resilience.” This session will feature high-level government officials and parliamentarians. Its objective is to explore strategies for enhancing African economic integration, developing connections between African and European value chains, and encouraging joint investment and production. This, in turn, will strengthen the African continent's economic capacity to tackle international challenges and achieve sustainable development.
The forum will also see participation from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises alongside representatives from the private sector, national and international economic and financial institutions, thus enhancing the practical dimension of the forum and contributing to the formulation of proposals and recommendations that support investment, innovation, and multilateral economic partnerships.
Over the two-day event, participants will discuss mechanisms to address current economic challenges and envision new avenues for cooperation and partnership among Euro-Mediterranean, Gulf, and African countries. This aligns with the visionary approach of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and solidifying bridges for partnership and economic integration among various regional spaces.
